Vera-Ellen was an American dancer and actress. She is known for her roles in the films On the Town, White Christmas, The Kid from Brooklyn, Love Happy, The Belle of New York, Call Me Madam, and Let’s Be Happy.

She was the daughter of Alma Catherine and Martin Friedrich Rohe. She had a daughter with her former husband, Victor Rothschild, a millionaire, said to have been of the Rothschild family.

Vera-Ellen’s paternal grandfather was Hermann Christian Conrad Rohe (the son of Johann Heinrich Conrad Rohe and Engel Maria Dorothea Hinze). Hermann was born in Illinois, to German parents. Heinrich was the son of Johann Otto Rohe and Catharina Engel Maria Charlotta Ohlendorf, who were from Hohnhorst, Schaumburg, Lower Saxony. Engel was also born in Hohnhorst, the daughter of Johann Philipp Hinze and Engel Maria Dorothea Geveke.

Vera-Ellen’s paternal grandmother was Maria/Nary/Marie Sophia Behrens (the daughter of Johann Otto Behrens and Sophia Weustenfeld). Marie was born in Crete, Will, Illinois, to German parents.

Vera-Ellen’s maternal grandfather was named Henry Westmeier (the son of John Westmeier and Agnes). Henry was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to German parents, from Hannover.
