I went into a spiral over the weekend when Bernie Sanders won the Nevada caucus with a healthy majority, and Nate Silver’s analysis was basically “the nomination is Sanders’ to lose.” All I’ll say on that point is that ONLY three states have voted, and two of those states were caucuses. Please get out and vote in your primaries. It’s extremely important. On one side, there’s a 78-year-old man who just had a heart attack, refuses to release his medical records, is getting help from Russia, and has some of the worst, most toxic supporters in the country. On the other side, there’s literally ANYBODY else. I’m voting for Liz Warren in the Virginia primary.
If – and perhaps when – Bernie Sanders gets the nomination, there will be a lot of talk about what it means for down-ticket races. In 2018, Democrats won back the House and Nancy Pelosi became the Speaker once again. Throughout the Trump years, Pelosi is one of the few people in the world who has shown, time and time again, that she knows how to get under Trump’s skin. She knows how to play him and make him look foolish. But according to many vocal Sanders supporters, Pelosi needs to go. In their political analysis, all we need to do is oust Pelosi and…? Susan Sarandon is one of those people:
We’re not looking to keep Pelosi because there’s a progressive running against her who supports Medicare for All and the Green New Deal among other things. Check out @ShahidForChange at https://t.co/g293QvlKFB and vote by March 3rd. https://t.co/6G8MWfUzIP

I… am old enough to know better. Susan Sarandon is old enough to know better. Bernie Sanders is old enough to know better. These kinds of all-or-nothing, my-way-or-the-highway purity tests serve no purpose other than shrinking the Democratic base and shrinking the vote. Plus, if the official line from the Sanders campaign is that “Pelosi needs to go,” that’s just plain insulting to Pelosi’s very real record as a liberal/progressive champion AND a savvy realpolitk operator.
Besides all that, Susan Sarandon is an a–hole. I think less of Sanders because he appears on stage with a nutjob who claimed that Hillary Clinton would be worse for the country than Trump.
