Footage has shown the moment a funnel cloud formed over a US town.

The time-lapse video, taken in Beaver, Oklahoma, was filmed amid storm warnings in the area.

A funnel cloud is a cone-shaped cloud which extends towards the ground but does not touch it.

Once the system touches the ground it becomes a tornado.

The town is around 70km from Perryton in Texas which was hit by a deadly tornado on Thursday.

At least four were killed after the twister left a mile-long trail of destruction through the town of around 8,000 people.

Emergency response teams remain in the area searching for survivors.
