Early Life

Evelyn Lozada was born in The Bronx on December 10, 1975. She was born to Nengo Lozada and Sylvia Ferrer and was raised with her sister by her mother. Lozada was raised a Roman Catholic She is of Puerto Rican ancestry and she moved to Miami in 2007.

Career

She worked as a secretary to an entertainment attorney and later became co-owner of Dulce, a shoe boutique located in Coral Gables, Florida. Lozada is best known for appearing on the show "Basketball Wives," a reality TV series that originally aired on VH1 from 2010 to 2013 and returned in 2017. The show followed the lives of wives, ex-wives, and girlfriends of professional basketball players. Lozada has been featured on all of the show's seven seasons.

In September 2012, Lozada appeared on the show "Iyanla: Fix My Life" where she discussed her personal life and sought emotional healing with Iyanla Vanzant. Another reality TV show, "Ev and Ocho", had been planned to follow the lives of her and former husband Chad Johnson, but never aired. Lozada also starred with her daughter Shaniece on the short-lived reality TV series "Livin' Lozada" in 2015 which she also executive produced. She has also appeared on episodes of the TV series "The Mo'Nique Show," "Big Morning Buzz Live," "The Insider," "Today," "The Boris & Nicole Show," "Entertainment Tonight", "It's Not You," "It's Men," "Dish Nation," "Home & Family", "Hollywood Medium," "Hollywood Today Live," and "The Real."

Lozada has also written a novel with her brand strategist Courtney Parker in 2012 called "The Wives Association: Inner Circle." It was released by Cash Money Content books and it follows a young woman who marries a football star and then forms a group of other sports wives called The Wives Association. In 2019, Lozada published her second novel, "The Perfect Date", co-written with Holly Lorincz. Lozada is slated to publish her third novel, also co-written with Lorincz, entitled "The Wrong Mr. Darcy" in 2020.

Evelyn has been married once and has two children. Lozada had her first child Shaniece Virginia Sabina Hairston in 1993. Lozada dated Antonie Walker from 1998 to 2008. In 2012 Evelyn made headlines when she married NFL star Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson.

They were married in July 2012 but divorced a few months later in September, after an incident where Chad allegedly assaulted Evelyn during a fight. Evelyn allegedly found a receipt that showed that Chad had purchased condoms at a store. She confronted him to determine why a married man would need condoms and a fight ensued. Chad was subsequently arrested and dropped from the Miami Dolphins football team. On September 21, 2012, Johnson entered a plea of no contest to a charge of misdemeanor domestic battery, avoiding jail time in an agreement with both prosecutors and Lozada. Lozada began dating MLB player Carl Crawford in 2013. The couple became engaged in 2013 and had a son Carl Leo Crawford together in 2014 before calling off their engagement in 2017.

Activism

Lozada posed for PETA's I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur campaign in December 2012. In September 2017, Lozada launched Turn Hurt Into Joy online campaign to raise money for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors.
